Are Illegals Really a Federal Problem

I came upon a piece by Libby Quaid, AP writer, titled: "Giuliani: Illegals are a federal problem." This was dated30 Oct.

Rudy Giuliani commented that the responsibility for stopping illegal immigration belongs to the federal government and not to cities, states or businesses. The Republican presidential candidate (Giuliani)would not punish small business owners for unwittingly hiring illegal immigrants. Also that the federal officials are "trying to put the responsibility for this on employers, on city government, on state government." Giuliani, in addition, commented that only, or nobody but the federal government can stop people from coming into this country, and the federal government does a bad job of that.

On Rudy Giuliani's website, www.joinrudy2008.com, I linked to his "12 Commitments." I was curious about the second item in his commitments: "I will end illegal immigration, secure our borders, and identify every non-citizens in those legals that overstayed their visas, and focus on those who remained. Giuliani will commit to deport all foreign individuals who have abused their privileges being in this Nation. Then there will be requirement that all immigrants to truly read, write and speak English.

For all what Giuliani wants to institute, there will have to be coordination among the federal, state, and local governments. To deport an illegal allien that committed a felony, it has to be reported to the federal law enforcement agency by a lower law enforecement agency. For example, a crime committed in the jurisdiction of a city and it was discovered that the felon was illegal, how else would the felon be reported to the feds?

Correct me if I am in error, but all those who hold a public office - whether state or local in a city, and their law enforcement - have taken an oath to defent the Constitution of the United States and its laws. Also Old Glory is display at public buildings. These states and local governmental officials have disregarded the oath when "sanctuary cities" are established, and instructing their police to not take an action against illegals that commit crimes.

The federal government cannot enforce immigration laws alone. The cooperation, coordination, and to communicate among all agencies are needed to make the law work. This is what Rudy Giuliani needs to realize.
